Erectile dysfunction is a common and highly distressing sexual disorder among men. Even though it usually occurs in people above the age of 40, some unfortunate young people too are affected by the disease. However, there is hope as according to a new study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, statins can help improve erectile function in men with the disorder. Statins are a class of drugs prescribed to lower blood cholesterol levels.
The research led by Dr John B Kostis and Dr Jeanne M Dobrzynski of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, ‘For men with erectile dysfunction who need statins to control cholesterol, this may be an extra benefit.’, said Dr Kostis in a statement issued by American College of Cardiology.

Erectile dysfunction occurs due to the lack of blood flow to the penis. Factors like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, consumption of cigarettes and alcohol and lack of exercise can all cause erectile dysfunction. It is important that you follow a healthy lifestyle with adequate exercise and a proper diet in order to cure the disorder.
